Jal Jilani Ekadashi, a sacred occasion celebrated at Vadtal Dham – Shri Swaminarayan Temple, Wheeling, took place on September 6th with great reverence and joy. This auspicious day holds special significance as it commemorates the divine “Dan Lila” or tax collection performed by Lord Shri Krishna in the village of Gokul. The festivities recreate this divine episode by placing the idol of Thakorji in a beautifully adorned boat, symbolizing the water voyage He undertook during this extraordinary event.

The celebrations commenced with elaborate preparations to welcome Thakorji onto the boat. Devotees gathered at the temple with great eagerness and devotion, eager to witness and partake in this sacred event. The idol of Thakorji, dressed in resplendent attire, was lovingly placed on the boat, evoking a sense of awe and reverence among the devotees. The boat, adorned with colorful flowers and traditional decorations, reflected the joyous spirit of the occasion.

As the boat carrying the divine presence of Thakorji embarked on its symbolic water voyage, the air resonated with joyous hymns and chants glorifying the Lord. The devotees’ hearts brimmed with devotion and love, as they imagined being present in the divine realm of Gokul, witnessing the enchanting “Dan Lila” of Lord Krishna. The celebration captured the essence of the pastimes of Lord Krishna, where He playfully interacted with the gopikas and engaged in delightful water sports.

During the ceremony, the idol of Thakorji was bathed and worshipped in the water, symbolizing His divine pastimes with the gopikas. This act of worship deepened the devotees’ connection with the Lord and filled their hearts with spiritual bliss. Following the divine bath, the devotees were offered prasad, consisting of saakar (sugar candies) and cucumber, signifying the simplicity and purity of Lord Krishna’s love and blessings.
